Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach is the southernmost of our Bayside beaches. This beach is famous for its namesake sunsets over the Delaware Bay, for Cape May Diamonds, and for the concrete ship, "Atlantus", which lies half-sunken just offshore. Sunset Boulevard runs straight as an arrow from Cape May to Sunset Beach. This famous road was traveled by carriages carrying vacationers who landed at Sunset Beach on steamboats from Philadelphia. This is a popular bicycle route and is also used heavily by inline skaters. As one gets about halfway to Sunset Beach, on the left is the Cape May Migratory Bird Refuge shown in the three photographs below. |

About three-quarters of the way to Sunset Beach, Cape May Point lies to the left. The state park in the area of the Cape May Lighthouse is another prime birding spot and home to the "hawk watch" which is under renovation in the picture below. |

Finally, at the end of the road lies Sunset Beach. There are several buildings housing gift shops, the Sunset Grill, and other shops. The photos below capture the flavor of the site. |

The concrete ship is a focal point of the area. The photos below show a light crowd, the ship's remains from the beach, and one of the Cape May-Lewes ferries behind the concrete ship. |
