Beachcombing
The Bayside beaches are excellent arenas for beachcombing. There are a large variety of shells available at all times of the year. These beaches are not raked or otherwise "sanitized", so it is easy to find treasures. Sunset Beach is known for its "Cape May Diamonds" which can be easily located. The beach from there to the Cape May Canal is not well-used and not constantly picked over. The stretch of beach from the Canal to Green Creek is about 3.5 miles of good hunting territory. These beaches are well-known as sources of arrowheads, especially after storms. The ocean beach from Cape May Point to Cape May is always a treat; it was described in "A Fabulous Beach Walk".
A wonderful winter beach to explore extends from the south end of Wildwood Crest to the Cape May Inlet (aka Cold Spring Inlet). If you brave the cold breezes of mid-January, you will be rewarded with more whelk (conch) shells than you can carry.
