Villas

We refer to the area along the beach between Cox Hall Creek and Fishing Creek as the Villas. The southern portion of the area is also called Tolz Beach or Cape May Beach.  (Click for some history.) In the picture at the left below is a house which is literally on the edge. This section of the beach is suffering from erosion as are all of the other beach areas. Just to the north of the house on the edge is Bayview Marina. This is a boatyard and marine railway (shown in the center picture below). At the right below is a picture up the rails toward the marina.

Bayview Marina is very evident from the Bay also. Its marker poles, shown in the picture at the left below, are visible for several miles along the nearshore waters. Another familiar landmark is the Villas Fishing Club shown in the center picture below. Many local residents are members and favor the club for its dinners. Also familiar near the Villas Fishing Club are the mud flats shown in the picture at the right below. Around low tide, these extensive areas provide a productive environment for birds and a mucky environment for human walkers.

There are a few seawalls along the beach. One of the walls just north of the Villas Fishing Club hosts a yucca garden as shown in the leftmost picture below. Continuing north along the beach, one encounters the ruins of an old fishing pier shown in the rightmost picture below.
